Okta says hackers stole data for all customer support users in cyber breach

November 30, 2023: On Tuesday, Okta, a San Francisco-based company, announced that a network breach two months ago resulted in the theft of information on all users of its customer support system. The breach involved hackers downloading a report containing names and email addresses of Okta's clients using its customer support system.

This incident led to a decline in Okta's shares in October. The company acknowledged that while there is no direct evidence of the stolen information being actively exploited, the breach poses an increased risk of phishing and social engineering attacks on its customers. Okta, known for providing identity services like single sign-on and multi-factor authentication to secure online applications and website logins, counts companies such as Microsoft-backed OpenAI among its customers.
